With this collection, I wanted to see how diverse I could make these images while taking them all from inside my apartment (thanks to Corona). I initially wanted to make a collection of Coronavirus inspired images because of the current situation everyone is in, but instead I opted to only making one (#3). The other images are not necessarily related however I feel they are still rather provocative in their own ways. The image with the lamp and flowers (#2) was taken during the day but the light emitted from the lamp made the image appear as if it was taken at night. This selection of items as well as the moodiness of the image provoked a date night inspired title. In the final image with the toy gun (#1) I placed it in a proper handgun case as a dark juxtaposition between youth and gun violence.

I am unsure how I feel about your first two images but, I really love your third image. I can always appreciate a good black and white image but, during this time of the world in this pandemic it seems so relatable for some people of today’s society. The way the curtains fade and almost create a ghost like blend at the bottom of the image leads me to wonder if there was anything else in this room. For me it is a gloomy movie scene that I can easily recognize the curtains as todays common bed curtains yet, so unfamiliar and leaves me to wonder where this window is located.
Your image reminds me of Larisa Siverina (image below) conceptual artist work. Specially her black and white window image where the curtains are blowing in the wind. It leaves me with the same wondering feeling your image left me with. Your first image and second image comments are very vague I wish you explained them more but, I guess that’s a part of conceptual art.

I like all three of your pieces and their different meanings behind them. I enjoyed that you did not stick to one concept, but rather incorporated three, one for each portrait. The first image entitled “Youth” that displays the toy handgun inside the case definitely exhibits the idea of the young generation with gun violence—especially in their schools. I have a personal connection to this photo, as my family experienced first-hand in the scare of a school shooting. It is definitely an unfortunate reoccurrence that continues in this country. Your photo simply touches that awareness by using a toy gun to symbolize the youth and the gun inside the case, as well as the bullets, to idealize the surrealness of today’s circumstances.
I love the placement of the items in your second photograph. How the letter lies softly against the jar of flowers, making you want to open it or see whom it is dedicated to. The light of the lamp gives the image a soft yellow glow, giving the frame a romantic feeling to it. The title of the picture “8:30” gives the picture a story, setting a time to what could be a date or a couples last meeting. It opens for various different possibilities and narratives.
The third picture “Cabin fever” has a somber tone to it. The black and white makes the viewer feel a longing sensation, implying how the person is feeling or may be experiencing internally after being inside for so long. The soft light coming through the blinds symbolizes what waits outside, making you want to open all the blinds and let the feeling of outside rush in. In conclusion, I love these three pictures together. You were very successful in making them diverse enough that they are their own pictures. However at the same time, they almost only work together. As you said, they are provocative enough that looking at the first one makes me as an execrator want to see the picture that follows.

I agree with Brittany. I thought to myself, what a spooky image before I read her comment. I too love how the curtains seem to blend into the ominous darkness, making it feel like you’re in a room where a major death has happened, or something really dark is about to happen. I appreciate the feeling I get when looking at it.
